Orwell's Internet

Interesting story in Newsweek. Even though the Web lends a more democratic voice to Average Joe in developing countries, the regimes in power are actually using it in a big brother-like way to monitor and stifle speech and expression.

  1. The article raises an interesting point, but does not go far enough. The real question is, could this happen here in the United States? Could our own government use the internet and the blogosphere to suppress dissent and free speech. The Patriot Act came dangerously close to doing this. Eternal vigilance, as the saying goes, is the price of liberty.
